MEDIA AND INFO LANGUAGES (12/12/17)

“LANGUAGE IS A SOURCE OF MISUNDERSTANDING” – McLuhan,1964 Language is a form of communication that connects people but sometimes we have different interpretations of a particular message. Also there are language barriers like dialects, noise, and culture. We have ways to use our own language that’s why it can result to misunderstanding. Does the user’s/audience’s own background or experience affect the interpretation of messages? How? We use our schema or the prior knowledge to interpret messages that we received. We have a different experience that results to our beliefs and virtues that we use to understand and decode a message. Is it possible that a different individual derives a different meaning from the message? Explain. Yes, it is possible because as said above we have different experiences that we use to interpret a message.
