Internet of Things as Theory of Media and Information (11/20/17)

Internet of things - Simply put, this is the concept of basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This includes everything from cellphones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of.   1. Search for the meaning of the INTERNET OF THINGS and answer the following questions:
a)    In your own words, define Internet of Things
→   The connection we have to the internet from our electronic devices that may or may not require interaction is for me is the Internet of Things.
b)   What brought this theory about?
→   Internet of Things or IoT is a global network of physical devices connected to the Internet. These devices are equipped with sensors and other information transfer mechanisms. The devices are usually combined by means of connection to a control and/or processing units. Internet of Things theory states that inanimate equipment will be able to speak.
c)    Do you like the concept of IoT ? Why or why not?
→   I like it because it can help our differently abled friends like the blind. Also it can help in making things easier to use. This can help children who can’t read and make it more interactive.
d)   In what situations do you encounter IoT in the Philippines?
→   Mostly while using the internet, we can surf through social media sites and many more.
e)   How do you think IoT will evolve and affect Filipino society in the next 3 to 5 years?
→   It will be spread to every device we use. It will makes us more connected and maybe society will be more imaginative because people will be on the internet more than to be socially involved.

What do you think is the relationship / cause and effect of IoT in media and information literacy?
      - It may help to increase the literacy but also it can also make people more confused.

Also there are language barriers like dialects, noise, and culture. We have ways to use our own language that’s why it can result to misunderstanding. Does the user’s/audience’s own background or experience affect the interpretation of messages? How? We use our schema or the prior knowledge to interpret messages that we received. We have a different experience that results to our beliefs and virtues that we use to understand and decode a message.
